Common questions
How does AI coaching work?
You log achievements in your journal—completed projects, awards, leadership moments, volunteer work, etc. Our AI reads each entry, classifies it, and sharpens it into a concise resume bullet or portfolio summary. Credits are deducted per call. If you use your own API key (BYOK), you aren’t charged credits; the call is routed through your key instead.
What are credits?
Credits are a virtual currency. 1 credit ≈ one short AI operation (like classifying an entry or sharpening a bullet). You can purchase credits in packs; they never expire as long as your account is active. Once you close your account, unused credits are forfeited.
Using your own API key (BYOK)
You can add your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key in Settings → Own API Key. Your key is stored in iOS Keychain only, never on our servers. If your key fails (invalid or quota exceeded), the app offers to fall back to your MeritMosaic credits for that single request. You can manage and revoke keys at platform.openai.com/api-keys (OpenAI) or console.anthropic.com/settings/api-keys (Anthropic).
Mentor feedback requests
You send a unique link to a teacher, counselor, or mentor. They fill out a 2-minute form rating your traits (e.g., leadership, resilience, creativity) and providing an anecdote. Their response adds to your portfolio strength score and can be used to draft a recommendation letter with AI assistance.
Portfolio strength score
A computed estimate based on your logged activities, AI coaching depth, mentor responses, and recency. Higher scores reflect richer, more recent evidence in your portfolio. It is an indicator, not a guarantee of any outcome (admission, employment, etc.).
Deleting your account
Go to Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. This permanently removes all your data, including journal entries, resume profile, and credits. Deletions cannot be undone. Credits are not refunded.
Billing and credits
Credits are non-refundable. If you believe a charge is incorrect or unauthorized, contact support@meritmosaic.io within 30 days of the transaction. We use Stripe for payment processing and comply with your payment method’s dispute procedures.
Privacy and data
Your journal belongs to you. We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising. For detailed information, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
